¿What is a Certified Translator?

A Certified Translator is a person with a University Degree who is entitled to sign official documents. The Translator is a certified officer, that is to say, the certified translator guarantees that the translation of the document is a true copy. A certified translator is the only professional entitled to act as interpreter in Court. In order to obtain an excellent translation, either certified or private, a deep knowledge of both languages, the language of origin and the target language is required. It is also very important to have a high grade of responsibility and specialization. Additionally, the translator does not translate words from one language into another. The translator is a professional who translates the idea from one language into another. That’s why “to have an idea of the language” is not enough to translate.


¿Why do I need a Certified Translator?

You will need a Certified Translator when the document to be translated requires the signature of the translator in order to file such document before the corresponding organization which requires said certification. Once the document is translated, it must be legalized.

What is the difference between a Translator and an Interpreter?

Both professionals have a similar job: to transmit the message from one language into the other but with the difference that the Interpreter performs his work orally and the Translator in writing. The Interpreter works in conferences, telephonic conversations, meetings, etc. There are consecutive and simultaneous interpretations: Consecutive: the speaker waits until the interpreter says in the other language what the speaker had said, and then, the speaker continues with his speech. Simultaneous: The Interpreter says what the speaker is saying at the same time in the other language.
